Buying A Used Car Can Be More Cost Effective Than Buying New

Buying any car is a major investment not just in terms of the car itself but what it takes to keep it on the road every year. A car fulfils so many functions. It not only offers a means of transport, but it is a personal means of transport which provides safety and security which many find an absolute must in todays world. A car can also represent an extension of your personality to those around you, intentionally or unintentionally.

However, you don't necessarily need to buy a brand new car to feel secure, or have that status symbol you've always wanted. Buying a used car can still be a special event and a used car often has many advantages over buying a new car anyway. And don't forget that some select second hand cars are even more desirable than a new one, particularly the old classic models like Jaguars and Mercedes cars which can command a high price tag to collectors in the industry.

There are a number of benefits to buying a used car. I would suggest the most obvious benefit being a lower cost to the buyer. This can be reflected in both the actual price of the car and the associated cost of the cars insurance. This lower cost gives flexibility of choice and allows the purchaser to opt for a slightly higher spec model than they would be restricted to if they choose a new car.

Another benefit of buying a used car is depreciation. A new car will depreciate at around 20% just as soon as it is driven away from the forecourt. Of course there will be exceptions to this but it's a pretty well know fact.

Just as with brand new models, there is a huge range of second hand cars to choose from and, if you buy from a reliable source like a garage, you'll have access to the cars maintenance and repair history via servicing and MOT details and the log book.
