Die Cast Model Cars Are Valuable Collectors Items
July 18, 2010 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment
The idea that die cast model cars are valuable collectors items is probably true, since they have been classed as collectibles since the 1930s. In 1934, Dinky Toys brought out die cast metal toy cars, which presumably parents brought for little boys, who grew up to be men who still liked the cars, and turned play into collecting.
Anyway, contrast these collectibles with Beanie Babies, which turned out to be a fad. Nowadays you see them mainly in thrift shops, not in display cases or mounted on lamp stands. You do see die cast cars in thrift shops, but they are segregated and individually priced, not thrown in with other small toys as the cute little baby animals are.
Why collect car models? Well, why collect anything? You either get it or you don't. But collecting these little (3") or not so little cars (10" - 12") does make sense to a lot of people. To begin with, they may have started as toys, but they soon developed in to scale models, or miniaturized representations of actual vehicles. They are true to life in proportion and detail, thereby rising above the toy level to the distinction of true models.
Die cast cars have traditionally been made of metal of one sort of another, or a combination of metals, forced into a mold while molten, with much pressure to fill the mold and to allow the metal to harden. Today you can also have die cast (or diecast, since the terms are used interchangeably) plastic cars. The metal ones are the collectible ones of choice, it seems, although early plastics have definitely become collectible, so who knows?
The models are still being enthusiastically made, and the age of the model does not seem to automatically raise the price. As in the original, actual car, the appeal is in the eye of the beholder. A model car may be a remembrance, of the VW bug that was your first car, of the memories that are aroused by the sight of a 1969 Mustang convertible, or of sitting on the floor watching the General Lee fulfill all your six-year old ideas of what a car could do.
It may also be as close as you will ever get to owning a Ferrari, say, or a Lamborghini. If you really always wanted one, somebody is sure to give you a model for Christmas sooner or later. If you really rate, it may be a premium model with doors that open, a steering wheel that turns not only itself but the wheels as well, and a working suspension. If your friends really get carried away, they may get you one with a working internal combustion engine, although they are venturing close to the toy line here.
As in all collecting, it is wise to focus. You may want to start with police cars, with all the versions of the Batmobile, with cars from famous movies, or from the era of history that interests you most. The choice of models in all these categories and more is very large, and there are many manufacturers who used to and/or are still making these small vehicles.
It can turn into a hobby, too; you may want to put your cars into display cases and hang them on the wall, but you may want to restore them, airbrushing on bright, glossy colors, or set them in dioramas with little, die cast gangsters or carhops or service men just the right scale to match.
Anyway, model cars are valuable collectors items - valuable in terms of the fun of it all if not in the investment possibilities.
Model cars aren't just for kids. Die cast models cars on classic cars are treasures of our past.

Many frequent flier programs also join up with credit card companies, that award miles for ordinary purchases. Finding the best discounts and coupons for car rental is as easy is logging into the credit card company's website and look for some great deals. The more that particular credit card is used for purchases, the more rewards credits are earned. Spend enough, and those points can accumulate fast.

Additionally, booking travel through one of the large online travel sites can also get great results. Car rental agencies offer tons of deals and specials unique to these sites. As long as the reservation is made through their service, there are a variety of choices that may work for you.
Finally, check out the websites of rental car companies themselves. Sales happen all the time, and deals are always popping up. Remember, car companies love repeat business, so many of them offer incentives returning customers. Stick with one company for a while, and savings opportunities will start to appear on a regular basis.
Be flexible with the rental dates. Car companies often charge more on weekends and during big holiday travel times when a lot of people are on the road. How To Buy A Car On E Bay Motors?
July 10, 2010 by Sagar Jawale · Leave a Comment
There are many terrific benefits to buying cars on e bay Motors, including a price that the you get to determine, lower insurance and the absence of a car payment every month if you pay in full. If you plan on buying used cars on e bay Motors in the near future, here are several tips to make sure that the road to your new ride is a smooth one.
Study along with your local car insurance agent before deciding buying on a used car. If the price of auto insurance is a crucial deciding factor, you should be conscious that SUVs will be costlier than a car. Regardless, nevertheless, a used car will carry more affordable insurance coverage than a new one.
Request a Car Fax report. This information is available for a reasonable fee and includes information regarding the car's history, including whether or not it has been flooded or if it has ever been involved in any type of accident. In addition, the number of previous owners and whether or not the title is clear should also be included in a Car Fax report.
Take a look at the vehicle's price with Kelly Blue Book. This source is likely one of the most trusted in terms of providing new or used automobile costs. By entering certain data into the web site, automobile shoppers can learn what that specific vehicle's cost should be. This may also help potential buyers realize whether or not they are getting a great deal.
Calculate gas mileage. An SUV will sometimes use more gasoline than a compact automobile, which is essential if the price of gasoline is a major deciding factor in your purchase.Select a used car with good mileage as possible. This should imply that the car has a longer life and hasn't been used excessively.
And finally, when buying cars on e bay motors, make sure that the automobile you choose is one that fits your lifestyle. For example, a family would likely be more comfortable in a van or SUV, while a single person or a married couple may be perfectly happy with a compact car. The design of an automobile that you may consider buying on e bay motors will ultimately depend on your intended use and how many people you are in your family.

Honda Accord Not IPhone Ready
July 7, 2010 by Windy Reigns · Leave a Comment
A short time ago, I test drove a new V-6 Honda Accord Coupe. The new, standard tech upgrades at my disposal: hands-free Bluetooth, XM Radio, a 270-watt audio system, were amazing and enough safety features (18 to be exact) to make any passenger feel protected and safe. While I enjoyed the power of Honda's 271 hp, 3.5 L, iVTEC engine, and the sportier look of the coupe model, I immediately felt that something was missing-an iPhone/iPod connection/auxiliary jack.
Yes, I know it sounds picky but it would be in the best interest of Honda to make an iPhone/iPod connection the standard or at least add an aux. jack considering that 51 million people have an iPhone and another 260 million other people have an iPod. The iPhone 3GS, Apple's current iPhone model, can play music over a Bluetooth connection, but the Hands Free Link system in the Accord does not play music over Bluetooth. The system only allows phone features to be used. One may contend, "well, just use a CD or the radio, or even, the XM Radio, a standard feature in the Accord!" However, with digital media now the norm it should be possible for Accord owners to carry and connect their complete music library to Honda's 270-watt stereo system.
While XM Radio is impressive, it simply cannot compete with a customized digital library. Sure an MP3 CD can be personalized to hold 120-150 songs depending on the bit rate, but this is no comparison to the thousands of songs that can be stored on the iPhone or iPod.
Of course, Accord owners can buy a third party iPhone/iPod system for the Accord, but this requires that the dashboard and stereo system to be altered. An LCD screen must be attached to the dashboard and the iPod car kit system is run through the stereo. The end result detracts from the original beauty of the Accord panel display and worst of all, removes value from the Accord. Accord owners do have the option of purchasing iPhone/iPod to FM transmitters. The transmitter plays music through an vacant radio station and connects to the bottom of an iPhone or iPod. However, even the "top end" transmitters like Belkin and Griffin, provide sound quality similar to playback from a Walkman CD player without "shock technology". Music tends to stop when traveling on bumpy roads, over potholes or even if the transmitter is touched. . What was more annoying was the muffled, often fuzzy sound of my music. Despite the Accord's exceptional stereo system, the FM transmitters managed to transform my 256kpbs ACC files into ordinary playback sound quality that resembled ringtones on my phone-rendering this technology inadequate.
The lack of iPhone/iPod connectivity can be a letdown but it may not be enough to discourage a customer from purchasing a new Honda Accord Coupe. Accord owners do have options if they would like to listen to music through the stereo system, but features available in iPhone/iPod fitted automobiles such as, direct access and choice of songs, artists and custom playlists are not accessible. Maybe Honda will catch up with iPhone/iPod technology in their 2011 and 2012 models still to be released, but for now new Accord owners will have to settle for the factory equipment provided.

What To Check When Your Engine Cranks And Refuses To Start
July 1, 2010 by Eric Driver · Leave a Comment
Your vehicle's engine may refuse to operate as expected for several reasons. The culprit is always related to the three things your engine needs most: fuel for combustion, sufficient compression within the cylinders, and a spark. Without all three, the engine will not perform as it was designed. The problem is, each can be affected by other parts and systems, making it difficult to diagnose the root cause of a problem.
In this article, we'll focus primarily on the factors that can cause your engine to crank (i.e. turn over), but not start. We'll begin with the items that are easiest to troubleshoot, and advance to the more difficult items toward the end.
Inspect The Fuses First
This step sounds intuitive, but a lot of people neglect to do it. Whenever you're experiencing issues with components that rely on your vehicle's electronics, check the fuses before anything else. The reason cars have fuses is to protect the electrical circuits from an overload. If a particular fuse burns out, the part or assembly controlled by it will stop working. This includes your engine and parts that influence its operation.
Look in your owner's manual to find out which fuses affect your engine. Then, open the main panel, remove the fuses, and inspect them. If the links inside are broken, the fuses are bad. If the links are intact, they are fine.
Pull The Trouble Codes
When your engine experiences any deviation from its normal performance, it will produce an OBD-II trouble code. This code is logged into your car's computer. This allows a mechanic to retrieve it and have a better idea regarding where to start looking for the root cause of the deviation. If you have an OBD-II scanner, you can pull it yourself. You can purchase a scanner at many auto supply shops for less than $40.
Pulling codes from the computer is easy. A diagnostic connector is usually located in your vehicle's cabin underneath the dashboard. You can plug the scanner into this connector in order to pull the codes from the computer. These OBD-II codes are alphanumeric (e.g. P1086, P1822, etc.). Once you have pulled them, look for their definitions online. This may provide helpful clues regarding why your engine refuses to start.
Examine And Test The Spark Plugs
Recall that one of the three things your engine needs is a spark. Hence, each cylinder has a spark plug (sometimes, two) that ignites the compressed air-fuel mixture within each cylinder's combustion chamber. This results in a mini-explosion within the chamber. The explosion produces vapors that expand rapidly and push the piston downward, which turns the crankshaft.
Unfortunately, spark plugs become fouled over time. Deposits can accumulate on them and make it difficult to generate a sufficient spark. This can cause your engine to crank, but refuse to start properly. If the spark plugs appear fine, it's time to test the pressure within the assembly.
Check The Combustion Chamber's Compression
In order for the air-fuel mixture to ignite within the cylinder, it must be sufficiently compressed. This means the cylinder should be free of severe compression leaks. Often, the exhaust valve will fail to close properly, and thus allow air to escape during the combustion process. If a leak is severe, it can prevent your motor from starting.
You can purchase a compression gauge for less than $40. If the compression within the cylinders is fine, you'll need to test your ignition system.
Is Your Ignition System Operating Properly?
There are several components that comprise your ignition system, and a failure that affects any of them can impair your engine's performance. These include the spark plugs, distributor and distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil, and other pieces. Unless you're experienced with automotive diagnostics, it's a good idea to have a mechanic test these parts.
If your engine cranks, but will not start, follow the troubleshooting guide above. If you are able to isolate the problem to the fuses or spark plugs, you'll be able to easily resolve it on your own.
