What To Do If You Are Involved In An Auto Accident

July 26, 2010 by Angelo de Silva · Leave a Comment

When you are involved in an auto accident, everything seems to happen so quickly. You may be partially injured and confused about what happened. It is therefore important to be familiar with what is expected and required of you should you be involved in an auto accident. This will help you follow the right procedures when you are in an accident.

Be Familiar with Your Auto Insurance Policy

When you take out an auto insurance policy, know what it covers. It's important to know if it includes roadside assistance, towing or emergency medical assistance. Does your insurance company have a hotline number that you can call in the event of an auto accident? Most insurance companies will have stickers that you can place on your vehicle which feature this number. Most companies will tell you that the first thing you need to do is to call the hotline. Familiarize yourself with the claims procedure of your insurance company.

Immediately Following an Accident

Your capabilities will depend on the seriousness of the accident. Naturally, if you or your passengers are severely injured, it is more important to get medical assistance than to sort out your car. However, if the injuries are less severe then you need to stop and assess the situation. Is it safe to remain where you are? Consider that you may have landed in the path of oncoming traffic. Personal safety comes first so make sure you can avoid any further injury. Get out of the road if possible and take your valuables such as your wallet and cell phone with you. If other vehicles are involved, check that the people are okay before doing anything else. The first thing you should do is call your insurance company. The person at the call center will be able to give you advice and guide you through what to do.

What to Do if Other Vehicles Are Involved

Most cell phones have cameras. Take a photo of the accident scene and the license plates of all vehicles involved. Next, ask to see the driver's licenses of the other drivers. Take down their details. This should include their identity or social security number and a home, work and cell phone number as well as an address where they can be reached. Get too much information rather than too little. Also, get the details of the other drivers' insurance companies. You will need to give them your details as well. Make a note of any other factors that may have influenced the accident. There could be oil or debris spilled on the road, a burst tire or a pothole that caused a driver to lose control of their vehicle.

Leaving the Accident Scene

Generally, you should not leave the scene until the traffic officers have arrived and given their approval for you to leave. Sometimes, if it is a simple bumper bashing, traffic officials will ask you to move out of the road so you do not cause any further congestion or possible accidents. If the vehicle can be driven and you have the okay from your insurance company, you can then drive it home. Many times though it will need to be towed. Insurance companies generally contract specific towing companies and it is essential to get the insurance company's approval to get the vehicle towed. Often, unauthorized towing companies charge exorbitant fees and then take it to their own repair shop where they charge you storage fees. If the insurance company has not given their approval, you could end up having to pay for this out of your own pocket. You must call and personally get the towing authorization and check the credentials of the towing company when they arrive. Don't take the tow truck driver's word that they are approved by your insurance company.

Submitting Your Claim

Most insurance companies will ask you to complete a claim form where you have to provide the details of the accident. Make sure you complete the form with as much detail as possible. Submit the photographs you took of the scene and the other vehicles' particulars as well. Make sure that the information you provide is accurate to avoid any delays in settling the claim. If you are dealing with a broker, they can follow up on the claim on your behalf which will make your life easier.

The Best Way To Purchase A Lawn Tractor

July 25, 2010 by Eddie Simms · Leave a Comment

Lawn tractors are generally tiny tractors intended for farm work up to two acres. There are a number of attachments to the tractor, which can reduce your manual work quite considerably. This can help you employ your available time effectively in working on your garden in trim condition all year round. Lawn tractors are flexible items of kit. They can do a lot of roles such as cutting, ploughing, lawn rolling, lamp post hole digging, and masses of other roles that need to be done around the farm or home.

These roles are made possible through their power take off shaft. This makes lawn tractors one of the gardener's very best friends.

Purchasing a lawn tractor is much like buying a car. The cost of a used model is a lot less even if there is little more wear than being driven out from the show room floor.

Consider the tractor you are purchasing very diligently. It is generally recommended that you try the tractor for yourself and get an idea about the time required in attaching and detaching the various accessories. Test-drive the tractor, and try and get a feel of getting out and in of tractor. Just taking it for a test spin, doesn't mean that you have to get it there and then. Resist the pressure, and consider your options carefully.

The basic model available is a Bolen 762F76, and the John Deere Spin-Steer SST-16 is available, albeit at a higher price range. The Poulan Pro PK185H42ST is in between these two in both price and quality.

Remember this is just the cost of tractor alone without accessories. Accessories can include lots of different pieces. Just to begin with you can have a cover, a grass collection bag, small and big carts, and much, much more, all of which can add to the price, making it even more necessary to get a superb price at the start. If you are going to use your tractor solely for lawn cropping, and you have a tiny farm of one or two acres, you'll have a glance at the stand-behind mower rather than going for a full on lawn tractor. All the same, look around and in this economy you must be in a position to find some real bargains if you look around.

Now, Weldon Duffy reveals more on John Deere Tractor Savings which you can access via the John Deere Tractors site.

Steel Garages Pros And Cons

March 24, 2010 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

When you think about steel buildings, you may think of a large factory. Many industrial areas have large and impressive looking steel structures. Did you know that they are available to the public also? Steel garages can be a very good choice for residential outside buildings.

Steel buildings are made completely out of steel. They are not to be confused with steel frame buildings. Steel frame buildings have the inner structure of steel. The outer building such as the roof and siding can be made out of other materials. A steel frame garage may resemble an ordinary wood garage. Steel frame buildings are not the subject of this discussion. Steel buildings have many advantages over other structures. Here are some to consider.

Good things

They are cheaper than building a conventional garage. You will pay considerably less than a conventional one.

Sturdiness: Steel is strong. They do not need a lot of extra support. The design and structure of the steel building make it very strong. They hold up better than wood. There is also very little, if any, upkeep. Once you build them, there is not much else to do. They can withstand the elements well also.

Versatility: You can find a great variety of uses for a steel building. You may need a separate workshop. Perhaps you need a place to house a tractor or other farm equipment. The kids might need an area to play music. Steel building will work well for those purposes

Outside design: Many steel buildings can look like other types of buildings. You can apply various materials for colors and textures. They can resemble wood, also.

Not as heavy: Steel structures do not weigh as much as other garages. Wood, brick, or concrete would be considerably heavier.

Fire resistant: A wood garage can be a fire risk. Your insurance would most likely be cheaper for steel.

Tax savings: Your steel building may qualify as energy efficient. This could give you a tax savings.

Resists damage: Water will not soak into steel buildings. Water damage of this kind cannot happen. Once wet, they dry off quickly. Insects will not eat steel. If you live where termites are a problem, this is a good feature. Fungus does not like to grow on steel.

Disadvantages

Steel will absorb heat at a rapid rate. As a result, it will also dissipate quickly. In colder climates, this can be a disadvantage. You will need some special equipment to build a steel building. However, there are kits available. With kits, you get instructions and there is less work to do. Steel will rust if it is dented or scratched. You would need to allow for that.

Summary

There are many uses for steel garages and metal buildings. They have many uses. They are typically cheaper than other types of buildings. They are very durable. They resist water and rot. They will rust if damaged. In wintertime, they may lose heat rapidly. You will not have to worry about pests such as termites. Steel is light and strong. It is also fire resistant. However, steel buildings may not be easy to erect. However, there are kits to make them easier to build.

Automobile Liability Insurance To Protect Your Assets

January 29, 2010 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

The state laws of every state in the USA require that you carry Car Liability Insurance on your vehicle. This coverage pays for damage that you cause to persons or property in an automobile accident when you are at fault. The laws regarding this insurance are determined by the individual states. This means that the requirement varies by state. In some states you will find that the state minimums are lower than in other states.

In addition to being required by your state's laws, liability insurance also protects other properties that you may own. When damage is done or injuries are caused in an accident, if your insurance coverage is found lacking, you can be held personally responsible and your personal property can have liens placed against it. These liens can prevent your from getting a loan or must be satisfied before the property can be sold.

Liability insurance policies are often referred to in an abbreviated form. For example, 5/10/5 liability insurance would mean that the policy would offer $5,000 insurance for any injury to the person with a limit of $10,000 personal injury per accident and $5,000 for property damage. Although these limits seem very low, they are the limits that are in effect in some states.

It is common for a states limits to be lower than the actual amount of insurance than is needed. A good insurance agents can help you to know the correct amount of insurance to protect you other investments.

Your state DMV will be able to tell you the minimum amount of liability insurance that is required for your vehicle. In addition, they can tell you about penalties for allowing insurance to lapse. In an effort to cut down on the number of uninsured motorists, many states have enacted laws that require the insurance company to notify the DMV if your policy lapses for even one day. While the effort to cut back on uninsured motorists is appreciated, you can get into a sticky situation if you forget to pay your policy premium.

States are finally penalizing persons with more than a slap on the hand for driving without a license. Many states will cancel your registration for the lapse in insurance until you can prove that you have insurance and pay an administrative fee. With subsequent incidents the penalties become larger. Some states will impound your vehicle for six months and charge you for storage.

Persons needing to purchase liability insurance can request quotes using the internet. You can often get instant quotes for the insurance you need. By comparing the quotes, you can find the best coverage for your vehicle and the best possible price for your insurance.

Learning to drive defensively is one of the best ways to lower the price you pay for liability insurance. Defensive driving will keep you from having accidents and will also keep you from having traffic tickets. If you do not already drive defensively, then you should consider taking a defensive driving class to learn some new techniques.

A Garage Floor Covering For Cracked Concrete Flooring

December 15, 2009 by Gabriel Conway · Leave a Comment

If you are buying a house that needs remodeling, your garage floor may not be looking too great. And you may not have realized that having a concrete floor in your garage makes it prone to cracking, and any neglected cracks can make applying new paint or other coatings impossible. This problem can stem from other factors like the ground shifting, garage flooding, or other factors that damage concrete in ways that are inevitable. Despite this, there are times when a garage floor needs a covering, whether it is the result of a damaged foundation or just the surface that is unwanted.

Can't I Just Fix The Concrete?

There are certainly methods that you can use to repair your damaged concrete, and smallish cracks can be painted over, but this won't stop the cracks from expanding, as they most certainly will. For the most part, whatever it was that caused the original damage will probably damage it again. Because of this, if the floor is damaged enough, it's smarter to just forgo the garage floor paint and go straight to the coverings. By garage floor coverings, in this case, we mean mats or garage floor tiles. In summary, pretty much anything that doesn't merely coat the original concrete, but places a completely different type of material on top, one that is not chemically bonded. Both of the types of coverings that we will mention can be used on damaged floors, but not necessarily in every situation.

Garage Floor Tiles Aren't Always The Answer

Tiles can be used on concrete that has very small cracks, and they don't necessarily need to be filled beforehand. This is because tiles will grip whatever it is they are attached to, so it doesn't really matter to them if there is a tiny space where there is nothing to grip. In fact, since garage floor tiles are not a coating and remain physically separate, they may actually be helpful in preventing smaller cracks from expanding. As with any other garage floor covering, the idea is that, once the tiles are in place, any blemishes or damage will be hidden from view. Tiles should never be used where the concrete garage floor is stained. As time goes by, that stain will sweat, which means the sticky material on the bottom of the tiles will be inundated with whatever chemical it was that stained your concrete. This will cause the tiles to lose their grip, and you'll be in no better shape than you were before.

Garage Floor Mats Work In Almost Any Case

Sometimes the garage flooring just isn't up to having much of anything stick to it. Luckily, a mat will do the job just as well when it comes to making it easy to clean up chemicals, and they can look really good as well. However, this is akin to sweeping the problem under the rug, and may end up causing even more trouble. Depending on just how bad your concrete is, there may be some edges that are jagged enough to tear the mat from underneath, especially when you drive a car onto it. The concrete can conceivably get worse, as well, since it will be covered up and you won't really see it. One of the best things about a garage floor mat, though, is that it can be very easily replaced. Of course, this will only work if you can afford a new mat.

You May Not Have A Choice Of Garage Floor Covering

When it comes down to it, your choice of garage floors is pretty simple: if tiles will stick, then you can use either tiles or mats. If they won't, for whatever reason, then you're stuck with your choice of garage floor mats.

Review Car Insurance Policy To Save Money

December 12, 2009 by Adriana Noton · Leave a Comment

How long has it been since you have thoroughly reviewed your car insurance policy? For many people, it has far too long and this may mean that you are paying more for insurance than you would have to pay. Here are some ways that you may be able to save some money.

Begin by evaluating your current insurance needs. If you only have the state minimum amount of liability insurance, you may not have enough insurance to meet the current possibilities if you are involved in an accident. Many automobiles are worth far more than your states minimal liability, and even thou you may drive an old clunker; you could be involved in an accident with an almost new expensive vehicle. Be sure that you have enough liability insurance to cover the replacement of that vehicle.

In addition, you could be held responsible for the medical expenses of the passengers in the other vehicle. Once again many states have a minimum liability that is far too low to meet the medical needs of persons seriously injured in an automobile accident.

On the other hand if your old clunker has declined in value to two thousand dollars or less, then you may want to drop all the coverage on the vehicle other than the liability that would take care of the other vehicle and its occupants during an accident. This is because insurance on your own vehicle has a deductible amount. Once that amount is taken from your insurance settlement, it is not likely that you would get enough money to pay the premium difference.

Once you have decided exactly how much insurance you need, you will have to contact several insurance companies and ask for insurance rate quotes. Tell the person you are speaking with what you require for insurance and ask for a free quote. If an agent asks for a fee for the rate quote, move on. There are plenty of insurance companies and agents that offer free rate quotes.

Many insurance customers have found that the internet is an excellent way to get the rates for no charge in order to compare insurance companies and their rates. Using the internet allows you to get the quotes without the high pressure often present on the telephone. It also helps to avoid waiting for agents to call back and give you the requested price quotes. Finally, internet quotes allow you to easily print the quotes for comparison with other insurance companies.

If you choose to change insurance companies, make sure that the new car insurance policy is written so that it becomes effective the minute that the old policy expires. Many states have become very strict in requiring that there be no lapse in your insurance coverage.

Insurance companies must now notify a state if your insurance coverage ends. Some states will then send you a letter that you must respond to quickly showing that you had a new policy in place at the time of expiration, or there may be severe consequences.

Fantastic Deals At Automotive Auctions

December 7, 2009 by Brad Carlton · Leave a Comment

One of my favorite Flintstones cartoons has to do with automotive auctions e vehicle they bid on is a car that was involved in a bank robbery. The gangsters want to get it back because the trunk has the money from the bank robbery in the trunk.

So the gangster sends one of his minions to the automotive auction to bid on the car. He tells him he better out bid everyone else. The minion warns Fred and Barney not to bid on the car. This makes Fred all the more determined to out bid and win the car. During the bid the gangster's minion is eating a bag of peanuts. In the heat of bidding he chokes on the peanuts and cannot raise his voice to bid on the car. Fred and Barney win the bid and drive off the gangster's car.

They show up at their homes with the gangsters stalking them right behind. The women fall in love with the big sedan. They want to throw a party in celebration. So they send the boys to the market for food. The gangsters are right behind them. They open up on the boys in front of them.

The gangster's henchmen have caught up with Fred and Barney at his house. They follow the boys as they leave for the market. They start firing their guns at Fred and Barney. They have prehistoric guns. A sling shot with a trigger and barrel made of wood. The guns launch rocks with deadly force, not so much accuracy though.

The boys are shelled with rocks. We believe that the rocks fired from these guns can be deadly. They are rocks after all. It worked for David against Goliath. The boys race trying to keep in front of their attackers. Up ahead is a large house on a hill. They race up the road looking for safety.

But they do not know this is the hide out of the head gangster. Fred and Barney are trapped. The gangsters tie them up and start asking where the money is. The boys have no idea what they are talkiing about. They were simply looking for a good deal at the automotive auction. The gangsters find the money in the trunk to the surprise of Fred and Barney.

The gangsters believe they are telling the truth that they did not know about the money. But because they know too much they have to be disposed of. He loads his gun. All of a sudden the police rush in. They had the car under surveillance at all times. They were trying to trap the gangster and his henchmen. They knew he would try to buy the car from the auction.

The boys are heroes and get a small reward and Fred brags to the girls about how brave he was. Now you will not have such an adventure more than likely when you to to automotive auctions. But you will find a good car at a good price. There are several auctions in your area. Depending upon the vehicle you are looking for you can go to government auctions where you will find cars, trucks, and vans that were in government service. Or you can go to a bank auction where cars that have been repossessed are sold. Or try car rental company auctions where cars are sold off when they reach a certain mileage. Take your time and find the best car and price for you.
